François Beiger’s Biography 

Who is François Beiger?

Been born in Strasbourg on December 16, 1945, 
small cousin with the Dr. Albert Schweitzer. 
Afterward, the life is child's dream... A dream changed by the passion which took its reality thanks to the courage and to the stubbornness. A dream as so many men(people) made(did) it, but that little saw taking life.

In 1953, at the age of 8 years, François Beiger crossed in Strasbourg, his home town, in a lecture hall, a giant as magnetic as the pole and which carried(wore) three first names: Paul-Émile Victor, come to show personally that the dreams, when they are very strong, come true. Even if that can take time. From then on he is interested in the peoples Inuit.

Alternately disc jockey, racing driver, climber, creator and stylist of mode(fashion) during sixteen years in Paris and in Switzerland(Swiss) under his own mark(brand) (François B) François Beiger joined his dream by walking in crab on sinuous roads. 

1973 - The birth of his son Xavier, trisomique, upsets him. It is wounded and skinned(grazed) lively in its inside. He decides then to stick to his children's dreams. Leave a day with the huskies and join the ica floe and the Inuit peoples of the cold 

1979 - He purchases his first 4 puppies Sibérien-Huskies and begins the breeding with the aim of working and living with them. 

1982 - He participates in his first running of sled with dogs. 

1986 - He bases the Swiss club of the Sports of Huskies as well as the International Union of the Sports of Sled with Dogs. 

On 1988 and 1989 - It is awarded a medal by bronze in the Championships of Europe.

In 1989, he is Champion of France. Afterward, been extremely jealous, he slams the door in all this environment become narcissism, and in 1991, he leaves in expedition in Russia then in Alaska. In his return in Europe, he does not feel any more at him. He leaves definitively Europe to join Canada.
  The "Call of Great North"

Then, in 1991 , this explorer in the soul, was forty six years old when it leaves definitively to settle down in Quebec of which he knew nothing and where it(he) knew nobody. With his11 dogs and 920 $ in pocket, he embarks to Paris for Montreal. 

1991-1993 - He lives three years in a wooden camp, to Clova in full wood, among the trappers, the wooden runner and especially with the Amerindian community of the Attikamekws

1993/94 - He leaves to Inuit of Quaqtaq's village in Nunavik and crosses a winter among them. He returns convinced that his life is in the middle of the nature, of the fauna and close to autochtonous peoples. 

1994 - He crosses both summer month with a family Inuit in the point of the Labrador. 

1994/95 - He returns to Quaqtaq to cross another winter to Inuit.

Centre of Interpretation of the dogsledding

In 1995 - he creates the first Centre of interpretation of the Husky and the Nature in Quebec, with his breeding of more than 60 huskies. he opens a museum which redraws the history of the husky, the patrimony Inuit, and objects among which of very beautiful personal detail. 
(The centre is at present closed) 

1996 - He rises even higher. Nunavut, Iqaluit the capital.

He is next(goes alongside) to all the fauna of Canada: wolves, lynx, moose, deer of Virginia, black bear, beaver, polar bear, caribou, seal, béluga, arctic wolf, walrus etc.... 
A challenge then the other one, from raids to expeditions, French ", as one calls him, made its hole in the snow, gained the rough respect of the people of the cold.

1997-98-2000 and 2001 - He crosses the winters in the Bay James at his friend Bobby, an Amerindian Cri. 

1998 - In September, he leaves to Peawanuck, at Sam whom he met in Edmonton, in Alberta, during a journey. Being fascinated, fascinating, the explorer François Beiger likes the big challenges. 

In 1997, He decides to go up the project which trots to him in head since 1994. Make the tour of Nunavik solo with 16 of his companions in four in paws. And so he is going to prepare during two years the expedition:
" Nunavik 99 " To investigate, to discover, to meet the peoples of the cold, to learn, to share, to give a sense to what it begins. Here are the priorities. He is going to give four purposes to this expedition. The purposes: cultural - ethnological - humanitarian - educational 
It is on January 19, 1999 when he leaves Chisasibi, an Indian village Shout on the ba James. While reuniting 12 villages Inuit he is going to join Kuujjuaq situated in the South of Ungava's bay. Kuujjuaq is also the capital of Nunavik with her 1500 inhabitants. A trip of 2800 kilometres. Three months in the tundra and on the ica floe. In Kuujjuarapik's village, term of his first stage, during four days, he is going to welcome Sophie, Jacqueline, Yvan and Rodolphe, all four mentally handicapped persons and ambassador of Perce Neige. François Beiger, together with Inuit, prepared them a program of activities: construction of an igloo, fishing under the ice, meets with the children Inuit of the school and naturally a sleigh ride with dogs... 

On April 7, 1999, after 2800 kilometres of crossed, 9 storms of blizzard, the explorer François Beiger arrives at Kuujjuaq, in the biggest discretion. He has just grown rich of an extraordinary human experience which he tells in his
book " Nunavik 99 " and in his film of 52 minutes of the same title. Film which was selected in the Festival of Exploration Jules Verne in Paris in 1999..

In the course of the years, François Beiger is recognized as the specialist of huskies, peoples Inuit and Amerindians, of the Arctic. Recognized and liked speaker, he captivates his public by his stories told with passion. He collaborates regularly with televisions, radios, newspapers and magazines in France and in Canada. 1998 - François Beiger, also creates " THE FOUNDATION FOR THE TRISOMIE " cause who likes him in heart. 

2001 - In France he is going to create the association " Handicap , Rêves et Défis Jeunesse " This Association aims at offering to the mentally handicapped persons of the possibilities of holidays with activities of open air in a Centre of zoothérapie. But it is also to offer them the possibility of being able to make journeys and exceptional activities, outside the common. This Association has also for role to defend the rights of the persons mental defectives and to see to it that their integration in our modern world and in near the young people is made in the respect. It is still to inform the parents of these persons handicaped by the various possibilities and the activities.
